Privacy Policy

1. Introduction

Miniurl, hereinafter "we" or "our company", is an entity established in Chile. We are committed to protecting the privacy of our users and online visitors in accordance with applicable laws and best privacy practices.

2. Data We Collect

a) For Unregistered Users:

IP Address: We use the IP address of the unregistered user only to prevent abuse of the service and to estimate their approximate location. We do not store the IP address: we keep only an irreversible hash of it (a keyed fingerprint from which the IP cannot be recovered).

b) For Registered Users:

Name and Email: When registering for our service, users are asked to provide a name and an email address. This data is securely stored in our database and is used to personalize the user experience and facilitate communication related to the service. Both pieces of information can be entered manually at the time of registration or by using the Google authentication service (OAuth).

IP address and signup source: when you create an account we use your IP address to prevent abuse and to estimate your country, and we store only an irreversible hash of it (not the IP), plus where you came from (for example, a page on our site, the extension or a Google ad; in that case also the click identifier, gclid). We use the source to measure which channels bring users.

c) For Visitors of Short Links:

IP Address: We use this information to estimate the approximate location and to identify if the visit occurred within the last hour. We do not store the IP address permanently: we keep only an irreversible hash to count unique visits. Records created before October 2026 may keep the IP until they are deleted.

Browser: We record the browser used by the visitor to improve compatibility and user experience.

Country and City: We collect geographic data to better understand the distribution of our users.

Language: We record the visitor's browser language to personalize the user experience.

Device Information: We collect data about the operating system and brand of the device used to access our services.

d) Chrome Extension:

The Miniurl Chrome extension uses your miniurl.cl session or, if there is none, an API key from your account. To use the session it reads only the miniurl.cl session cookie (miniurl-session) and no other cookie. The API key, if you save one, is stored only in your browser's local storage (chrome.storage.local). The session or key is sent only to the Miniurl API to validate it, list your recent links and create links. When you press "Shorten", or choose "Shorten with Miniurl" in the context menu (right click), the extension reads the address (URL) of the active tab or of the link you clicked and sends it to Miniurl to create the short link; it does not read page content or your browsing history and does not collect data in the background. Extension data is not sold or used for any purpose other than shortening your links. You can delete the stored API key from the extension itself or by uninstalling it.

3. Use of Data

The information collected is used solely for analytical purposes to provide an overview of traffic on our website. We do not store data that allows for the personal identification of our visitors. This information helps us improve our services and personalize the user experience.

4. Data Sharing

We do not sell your data. To run the service we use providers that process data on our behalf: hosting and storage (DigitalOcean, Vercel), email delivery (Resend), payments (Lemon Squeezy), analytics (Google Analytics and PostHog) and error monitoring (Rollbar). If you set up webhooks or retargeting pixels, click data is sent to the destinations you specify. We may show ads (Google AdSense) on some pages, for example on links of the free plan. We share only the information needed for each purpose.

5. Cookies

We use cookies to maintain the user's session and improve the functionality of the website. Additionally, we employ Google Analytics to collect aggregated data about traffic and user behavior in order to improve our services, conduct marketing activities, and provide a better user experience. The data collected by Analytics is for internal use only and is not shared with any of our users. We also use cookies and similar technologies from PostHog and Google AdSense.

6. Data Security

We are committed to protecting our users' data through appropriate security measures to prevent unauthorized access, disclosure, or modification of personal information.

7. Changes to the Privacy Policy

We reserve the right to update or modify this privacy policy at any time. Users are encouraged to periodically review this page to stay informed of any changes. Continued use of our services after the publication of modifications to this policy constitutes acceptance of those modifications.
