  • Sharing a video from an exact minute (the t parameter) without the rest of the parameters.

What is the “si” parameter in a YouTube link?

When you share a video from YouTube, the link often carries parameters after the “?” sign: for example https://youtu.be/dQw4w9WgXcQ?si=abc123. The video opens the same with or without them; the only essential part is the video ID.

According to reports from users and blogs (as far as we know, there's no official explanation from YouTube), the “si” is an identifier that changes every time you share and that can connect whoever shares the link with whoever opens it when that person is signed in. It has also been reported that some newer links show “is” instead of “si”. That's why many people prefer not to leave it in the links they share with strangers or in public.

With this cleaner you paste the link and get the same link without the “si”, the “is”, or utm parameters, ready to copy. The parameters that do matter are kept: the video, the playlist, and the exact timestamp (t). Everything happens in your browser: the contents of your links are never sent to Miniurl.

Removing the “si” doesn't change what you shared before or what YouTube knows about what you watch with your account. You can also clean a link by hand: on a youtu.be link, delete from the “?” sign (or keep only t=… if you want the timestamp). On a youtube.com/watch link, keep v=… and delete the rest.

If you also want a short link and to measure how many people open it, use Miniurl's YouTube link shortener.
