Why shorten a Google Doc link?

Google Docs links are long: docs.google.com/document/d/ followed by an identifier of more than 40 characters. Pasted in a message, a bio, or a PDF, they're awkward and sometimes get cut off.

With Miniurl you turn them into something like miniurl.cl/my-document. It's easier to remember, type, and share, and you can see how many people open it and change the destination without redistributing the link.

Shortening the link doesn't change the document's permissions: whoever opens it still needs the access you set in Google Docs.

Looking for a Google shortener? Google discontinued its own (goo.gl). Miniurl is a free alternative for shortening Docs, Drive, and any other URL.

Frequently asked questions

How do I shorten a Google Docs link?

Copy the link to your Doc, Sheet, Slides, or Form from Google, paste it in the field above, and click “Shorten link”. If you're signed in, the short link is created right away; if not, we ask you to create a free account and then it's created with your link.

Does shortening the link change who can open the document?

No. The short link goes to the same Google Docs address, so access still depends on how you shared the document: if it's private, whoever opens the short link will still need permission.

Does it work with Sheets, Slides, and Forms?

Yes. It works with any Google Docs, Sheets, Slides, or Forms link, and also with Drive links.

Can I see how many people click?

Yes. In your account you see the clicks on each short link, from which countries, and on which devices it was opened.

Can I change the destination later?

Yes. You can edit the destination of the short link from your account, without resharing the link.

Is it free? Do I need an account?

It's free, with no card and no subscription. To create the short link you need a Miniurl account, which is also free.
